Recently, I was thrilled to meet up with Ana and Jake for a laid-back engagement photo session at Brooklyn Prospect Park. Ana and Jake met at NYU while they were taking a few classes together for film school. They got to know each other a little better after studying abroad in London at the BBC. It wasn’t until after they graduated that they finally decided to start dating each other. One of their first official dates was a rock show in Ridgewood, Queens, at a Chinese buffet. They moved in together about a year later, and now, they are living their best lives together. Ana is employed at PBS, and Jake works at the Lincoln Center, and they continue to support and love one another in their work and their lives.
Once they knew that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, they went together to pick out an engagement ring and plan a trip to Amsterdam around their engagement—since neither of them like surprises, and they wanted to be on the same page. In October, they took a train to Brussels, where Jake proposed to Ana in the Grand Platz. The two of them celebrated with some Iambic beer at the Cantillon brewery.
During the session itself, I found myself honestly enjoying hanging out with the two of them and capturing their moments. They love to talk to each other, and it was so easy for me as a photographer to step back and see their genuine love and affection. They are so in love and obviously made for each other, which makes my job as a photographer easier. After all, with subjects like these, how can you go wrong?
Post-shoot
After the shoot, we went to a local bar called the Adirondack. Ana and Jake often go there for the craft beers, and I see why—they were amazing. While we were there, I had to get one last shot of the two of them in the booth where they hang out when they go to the bar.
Jake & Ana, thank you for asking me to be your engagement photographer. I truly enjoyed getting to know you both and sharing a drink with you!
