Everything You Need to Know About Planning a Wedding at Brooklyn Winery

If you’re planning a Brooklyn Winery wedding, you’re considering one of Brooklyn’s most unique wedding venues. Tucked into the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn Winery combines modern industrial architecture, warm wood finishes, lush greenery, and an exceptional food and wine program into a venue that feels elegant without being overdone.
As a wedding photographer who’s spent nearly 20 years documenting weddings throughout New York, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph celebrations at a wide range of venues. Some are beautiful because of the views. Others stand out because of their history or architecture. Brooklyn Winery is different because it brings together thoughtful design, a seamless guest experience, and spaces that photograph beautifully throughout the day.
Whether you’re deciding if Brooklyn Winery is the right venue for your wedding or you’ve already booked your date, this guide covers everything I’ve learned from photographing weddings there—including planning tips, favorite portrait locations, frequently asked questions, and a real wedding that showcases the venue in action.
Why Choose Brooklyn Winery for Your Wedding?
One of the first things couples notice about Brooklyn Winery is how welcoming it feels. Although it’s located in one of New York City’s busiest neighborhoods, the venue has an intimate atmosphere that allows guests to settle in and enjoy the celebration.
Unlike venues that require couples to travel between ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception locations, Brooklyn Winery allows the entire wedding day to happen under one roof. That creates a smoother timeline, reduces stress, and gives couples more time to spend with family and friends.
From my perspective as a photographer, this also means more opportunities for meaningful moments. Instead of rushing from one location to another, couples can stay present throughout the day while still having plenty of time for portraits.
What Makes Brooklyn Winery Different?
After photographing weddings across New York, I’ve found that every venue has its strengths.
Brooklyn Winery stands out because it balances style with practicality.
The venue is sophisticated without feeling formal. It’s modern without feeling cold. And although it’s located in the middle of Brooklyn, the interior feels surprisingly intimate.
That balance creates a relaxed atmosphere where guests feel comfortable, couples can focus on enjoying their day, and photographers have countless opportunities to create natural images without forcing anything.
A Real Brooklyn Winery Wedding
One wedding that perfectly represents everything I love about this venue was Paola and Alex’s September wedding.
(Insert hero image.)
Their wedding was intimate, romantic, and filled with color.
Rather than choosing matching bridesmaid dresses, each member of the wedding party wore a different vibrant color, creating portraits that felt lively while complementing Brooklyn Winery’s warm interior.
The ceremony was emotional from beginning to end, particularly the moments shared between the bride, her father, and her brother.
Afterward, guests gathered for cocktails before moving into a candlelit reception where lush greenery, blush florals, and long communal tables transformed the space into an inviting setting for dinner and dancing.
By the end of the evening, the dance floor was packed, and the celebration perfectly reflected the couple’s personalities—relaxed, joyful, and centered on spending time with the people they loved most.
My Favorite Photo Locations at Brooklyn Winery
One of the reasons I enjoy photographing weddings here is that the venue offers a surprising variety of portrait locations without requiring couples to leave the property.
The Ceremony Space
Before guests arrive, the ceremony room provides one of the best portrait locations in the venue. The combination of natural light, greenery, and wood architecture creates a timeless backdrop.

Reception Room Before Guests Enter
I always recommend taking a few portraits before the reception begins. The room is beautifully styled, the candles are lit, and every detail is exactly as the couple envisioned it.

Exterior Portraits
Brooklyn Winery’s brick exterior and the surrounding Williamsburg streets provide a classic Brooklyn backdrop that contrasts nicely with the warmth of the interior.

Reception
Some of my favorite photographs happen after dinner, when everyone relaxes and the dance floor fills with family and friends.

Tips for Planning a Brooklyn Winery Wedding
After photographing weddings throughout New York for nearly twenty years, here are a few suggestions I often share with couples planning a Brooklyn Winery wedding.
Keep the Décor Simple
Brooklyn Winery already has beautiful architecture, warm wood finishes, and greenery throughout the venue. Instead of filling the room with elaborate decorations, focus on thoughtful floral arrangements, candlelight, and personal details.
Plan Portrait Time Into Your Timeline
Even fifteen or twenty uninterrupted minutes together can make a huge difference. Some of my favorite photographs come from those quiet moments when couples step away from the celebration and simply enjoy being together.
Consider a First Look
A first look isn’t right for everyone, but it can make the timeline feel much more relaxed and allow you to spend more time with your guests after the ceremony.
Leave Time to Enjoy the Reception
The reception often goes by faster than couples expect. Build your timeline so you can enjoy dinner, speeches, and dancing without feeling rushed.
Sample Wedding Timeline
Every wedding is different, but this is a timeline that works well at Brooklyn Winery.
- 1:00 PM – Getting Ready
- 2:30 PM – First Look
- 3:00 PM – Wedding Party & Family Portraits
- 4:00 PM – Ceremony
- 4:30 PM – Cocktail Hour
- 5:45 PM – Reception Begins
- 7:00 PM – Toasts
- 7:30 PM – Evening Portraits
- 8:00 PM – Dancing
Because everything happens in one location, the day naturally flows from one event to the next.
