St. Thomas Picaras Point Engagement Alyssa + Shane
What an amazing engagement session I had with Alyssa and Shane in St. Thomas Picaras Point. They both studied Marine Biology at NC State and have incredible energy and passion for the sea. So when I talked about locations for our shoot, I immediately thought about Picaras Point.
Alyssa and Shane’s story:
When Alyssa and Shane met, they were working at the state aquarium in North Carolina. It was Alyssa’s first internship of her college career and moved to Emerald Isle, NC. Shane is from this area of NC and grew up working at the aquarium every summer. It was only fitting that she would meet the love of her life in a place that means so much to both of them.
The Engagement Story:
Shane proposed to Alyssa on December 4th, 2015 at her family’s farm in NC. Right before the sunset, Shane took Alyssa’s hand and asked her to walk with him. They walked around to the gazebo in Alyssa’a front yard that had white lights strung all around with hundreds of candles in the midst of rose petals. Alyssa turned around to see Shane kneeling on one knee and she immediately started sobbing haha. Not only was it one of the most precious moments of her life, but it made it even more precious that Shane had asked all of the people they hold dear to their hearts to be a part of their special moment.
After just one year of being engaged, Alyssa and Shane graduated college in May and moved to St. Thomas in August, completely unplanned. Alyssa and Shane both have a passion for adventure and the ocean, and they had always dreamed of living in a paradise destination. One night while sharing a bottle of wine, they decided to apply for jobs in St. Thomas on a whim. The next morning they both woke up to email about phone interview and by the end of the day they had 10 days to move to the Virgin Islands and start their new life together! Alyssa says “It has been one of the most rewarding, thrilling and surprising adventures yet”. Shane is working as a scuba instructor at St. Thomas Scuba and Snorkel Adventures as he has been scuba diving since he was 10 years old. Alyssa is working on Bolongo Bay’s 53’ catamaran, Heavenly Daysas as a mate one of the leading ecology snorkel tours involving sea turtles and Caribbean marine life.
